Where people live, not just where they visit
A senior living community is somebody’s home before it is anybody’s workplace. Residents eat, read, play cards, receive family and rest under the same roof, and the cleaning has to fit around all of it. Gilroy Janitorial plans every visit with that in mind: quiet equipment where people are resting, carts parked out of walking routes, and rooms serviced when the calendar says they are free.
Senior housing around Gilroy includes independent-living apartment buildings, assisted living residences with shared dining and activity space, and smaller residential care homes set in converted houses. We begin with a walk of the community alongside the executive director or the person who oversees housekeeping, then put every shared room, office and resident area you want covered onto a written schedule.
Dining room, lounges and activity spaces
The dining room is the heart of the day, so it is reset after each meal service you schedule. Tabletops, chair arms and seats are wiped, crumbs are vacuumed from upholstered chairs and carpet, the floor under and between tables is mopped, and the service station counters are cleaned. Residents return for the next meal to a room that feels fresh rather than worn.
Lounges, the library, the activity room and the salon or chapel get dusting, glass and mirror cleaning, upholstery vacuuming and trash removal. Puzzles left mid-progress, craft projects and personal items stay exactly as residents left them.
Family visits bring their own rush. Before a holiday brunch, a birthday party in the private dining room or a weekend open house, an extra visit can go on the calendar to touch up the entry, the guest restrooms and the main lounge, then the crew returns afterward to clear tables, empty bins and put the furniture back the way residents like it.
Corridors, handrails and elevators
Residents use the handrails in every hallway, sometimes for the whole length of a walk to dinner. The crew wipes each rail end to end, cleans door handles, light switches and elevator buttons, and dusts the picture frames and ledges along the way. Hallway carpet gets a full vacuuming pass; on vinyl or tile stretches the mop goes down behind a caution sign, and the crew waits for the surface to dry before anyone walks through.
Equipment cords stay tucked against the wall, carts move to the side whenever someone approaches, and crews step aside and greet residents as they pass.
Resident apartments and bathrooms
When resident apartments are part of the plan, each one is treated as a private home. Cleaners knock, announce themselves and wait, and they follow your rules for apartments where the resident is out. Inside, they dust surfaces, wipe kitchenette counters and appliance fronts, empty bins and vacuum or mop. Bathrooms get the toilet, sink, tub or walk-in shower and grab bars cleaned and the floor left dry.
Medications, mail, photographs and keepsakes are never moved or sorted. Anything that looks like it needs attention from staff, such as a dripping faucet or a loose grab bar, is reported to your team rather than handled on the spot.
Floors that stay smooth and quiet underfoot
Carpet in lounges and hallways is lifted with hot-water extraction and spot treatment, and vinyl corridors can be stripped and refinished one wing at a time, with residents’ routes kept open and each section roped off until the finish is dry. Entry stone such as marble or terrazzo can be cleaned and polished. All of it is scheduled through our commercial floor care and carpet cleaning teams at the hours you pick.
Your procedures, checked crews and paperwork
The community’s written cleaning procedures set the order of work and the products used, including any fragrances your residents prefer to avoid. No one cleans in your building without first clearing a background check, and a supervisor returns for quality inspections and passes the findings to your housekeeping lead.
Families and owners expect a community’s vendors to be properly covered. Gilroy Janitorial carries insurance, bonding and workers’ comp coverage, and our certificate of insurance lands in your business office’s vendor file before work begins. To start, request a walkthrough through the contact page and we will put the visit plan in writing.
A few useful answers
Common questions
Will cleaners knock before entering a resident’s apartment?
Yes. They knock, announce themselves and wait for an answer, and they follow your community’s rule for apartments where the resident is away.
Can cleaning stay out of the way of meals and activities?
Yes. The dining room is done after each meal service you schedule, and lounges and activity rooms are cleaned when the calendar shows them empty.
Can resident apartments be cleaned on a set day each week?
Yes. Your housekeeping lead sets the day and time for each apartment, and the crew follows that rotation. An apartment skipped because the resident asked for privacy goes back to your team to reschedule.
How are hallway floors refinished while residents live there?
One section at a time, at hours you choose. Each section is roped off and signed until the finish is dry, and a clear route to rooms, dining and exits stays open.
